When I get on the gas and rpms reach 4000 and 5000, and it gets, it sounds like either a belt is screaming or a whining noise. I just noticed it today. (90 model w/144k). Please help ASAP.

My '90 just did the same thing. But it started at idle, and got worse. After checking all the idler pulleys, I ended up putting a new alternator on. That was the culprit. Just take it into a AZ or whatever store you have around and they will test it for free; it was obvious as soon as they turned it on.

The CCRM is supposed to cut power to the AC at wide open throttle. Was your AC or defrost on? Does it happen with the climate control turned off? Maybe just loose belts.

no ac and no defrost. I recently had a leak at my radiator fixed (at the tanks). After the mechanic fixed it, he started the car to check it. The belts screamed forever. I guess due to carelessness filling up the radiator, getting the belts wet. I drove off but not before killing it about 4 times. When I started to give it gas, rpms would drop to 500-, and then die. I got out of my car and noticed quite a bit of water? on the ground from my tail pipes. Anyway, I started it and it got better. However, every time I started my car the days to follow, the belts would scream but not for very long. And they would do it only when I downshifted to 2nd!!??
Now here I am. I'm afraid to get on it. I'm not sure if the radiator incident has anything to do with it, and I am not even sure what the noise is, but it is there. 4-5K rpms

Surely someone else has had this problem??????? Is my car dying? As much as I love the SHO, I should've known better than to buy one with so many miles!!!! Hopefully it is minor????? anyone have any feedback. Like I said, it whines or screams? only when the rpms reach the stage where the sho seperates itself from being a taurus (at about 4000 to 5000 rpms), I don't notice any loss in power, just a scary noise.

It sounds like it is the belts. When belts are worn or need tensioning they scream. Also antifreez is actually very greasy. I had my heater core bust on my Tempo and that stuff got all over in the interior and it was very hard to clean up. It acted like grease though. So eaither your belts are going or the antifreeze is greasing the belts. Sinc eit was the shops fault take it back and have them fix it.

My 90' currently has 135k and does the same thing. I isolated mine to the idler pulley located next to the alternator. I think the previous owner/mechanic torqued the bolt a bit too much and damaged the bearing.
