I ran my sho,:confused::woo-hoo::woo-hoo: left about 6krpm fooling around.When i stopped i heard a rattle on top fo engine.At idle you cant hear it.give it gas then it comes in.So i did the 60k thinking it was the answer.So drove home from shop same thing.So i dove to work today,On the way home it went from a rattle to a rattle and a hammer sound.Now itz doing it at a idle to.3.2 wit 3.0 cams any help thanks.

did you replace the rod bearings?

Edit: i saw you said from the top of the engine, but you never know.

does pushing the clutch change anything? Maybe its not the engine could be a TOB. They can get pretty loud and the clutch still feels fine.Once u hear it though its got maybe 1k miles left.

When were, if they were ever changed, the rod bearing changed? They can sound like they are coming from the top of the engine sometimes.

Or it could be the chains slapping the VC but if u just did the 60k u probably would have seen some kind of wear, then again it could of been easily missed as u are not looking there and if it just started there would be minimal marking. This is not so common but when talking about the top of the SHO engine, its seems to be one of the 1st things talked about.

most likely candidate is a cam chain tensioner failure.

After cam swap ran fine for 3 mths or so after swap. just a idle thing at slowing to a stop.

Will 3.0 bottom end work in 3.2 i have one wit 75k, on it sitting here.After the swap the oil light wound pop on for a sec .i thinkl it was do to low idle had to resett, it had seen it since.

Sounds like rod bearings. Sound changes under load. It will start as a light ticking sound and develop into a hammer. You can judge the sound by engine speed. Cam issues are 1/2 the speed of the bottom end. Sound can tell alot.
