I just bought this 91 plus that has 112,000 miles about 2 months ago. Its a good car I would say and just dumped over $2000 (with out the purchse price) and its worrying me... I just installed spec 3 slutch, etreme motor mounts, 73mm MAF and did the complete maintanence of the car. Now, while I slow down to stop, and after I press the clutch, the rpm drops slightly and my oil pressure light comes on and then turns off (I know if the RPM is low oil pressure is going to be low but why does it drop? and the drop is not big maybe it drops to 700 to 800RPM. I cleaned the idle sensor to see if it would help, its didnt). Thats one problem, the second is when the car is idling around less than 1100rpm there is a ticking or clicking (one or the other) noise. (I am afraid its the main bearing). Before I took the car for fixing, I noticed that the car was idling around 1100rpm. I dont know what to do...its just ******* me off :frown: Anyone has any idea or suggestions?

Did you change the rod bearings? they make a ticking noise before they spin. That would be the first thing to check, after that would be the main bearing. Dont drive the car unless you want to replace the motor though. (If you do this, i am a good example of what happends) New Motor :(

You need to be replacing the rod bearings. Soon, especially since you are getting the oil pressure light. What kind of oil are you running?

Do a search on rod bearings, you will come up with more than enough info and instructions on them...

lots of things can cause ticking, such as something on the accessories belt. but in combination with low oil pressure though..I've never seen that.

I have seen a 3.1L rebuild where the guy didn't plastigate the bearings and he did the math wrong too, it didn't tick, but it sure had low oil pressure.

my last case of a ticking engine took me from new accessories (alternator etc), to a valve adjustment and then the real culprit was crank cancer. a new chunk of key-way stock and some JB weld and all was solved. if this ticking is accompanied by lower than normal power, you should look at this.

The erratic idle may be a simple idle re-learn. However, I would not run the car until you change out those rod-bearings. It is not a bad job. It sounds hard, but the most difficult part IMHO is getting the y pipe off without breaking studs.
