i was just wondering, what is the normal running temperature of your SHO's. On an 80 degree day, in stop and go traffic, my temperature needle goes as high as the O on the Normal marking on the temperature indicator. Is this normal? Thanks for your responses.

Is it normal? I'm not sure, my silver atx never got up that high. But my red MTX does. Do i like it? No. My car does the same in stop and go. thank god my rad fan works. I also leak an ass load of coolant, and alot of the coolant is water by now, i'm sure that isnt helping any. Hopefully that will be fixed this time around. I get the low coolant light every 2 or 3 days after filling the overflow. Both my SHOs rolled with the low coolant light. Im used to actually. Curious to see the responses to this thread.

WTF d00dz. Seriously. Take a step back. See that word? It says "NORMAL". now take a look-see in your merriam-webster and tell me exactly what 'normal' means. Oh, it means it's perfectly fine? Well damn!

I guess it's normal, then.

It may vary some in the later year models, but my '92 runs between the R and M underway, and when idling in traffic, it can get up to touching the N. Cooling system is in good shape with proper thermostat, and no pressure leaks.

Thanks for all the replys guys. And to the person that was like "uh its in the normal its normal"..I have never owned a car that ran that high in the normal zone yet. That is why I asked. Thanks for all the responses and now I don't have to question it anymore.

yeah stock gauges arnt very accurate, as hawkeye said, if its in normal, you're fine, thats why they give a range. It depends on the gauge and where he needle is placed upon assembly so as long as it hold steady temp you're fine:thumb:

My 1993 MTX when driving in the summer is usually on the R, but stop and go traffic it goes up to right below the N when the fan comes on. I have an aftermarket water gage and really haven't seen anything much above 240F in stop and go.

you may want to consider replacing the thermostat then... it's a high-failure item in the SHO.

Overheating

If you are loosing that much coolant, you probably have a hole in your radiator. With a hole, you will not build pressure. A radiator/cooling system under pressure removes a lot more heat from your motor and does a much better job of cooling.

An iron cylinder block with aluminum heads needs to have its cooling system operating properly. That means a system under pressure with the correct amount of anti freeze. Not doing that may make your life inconvenient.

LOL, mine warms up to the L at most... Weird as the heat comes quickly everything feels as hot as a "normal" engine..

Without my homemade Po-Po grill and going down the highway, my '90 sits right on the R, but with it, it sits right between the M and the A.
