We are going to be putting a 91 3.0 into our 89 3.0, and we wondere dif there are any specialty parts/ tools we will need before we begin the process. The 91 is complete, so everythign is useable. Will we need to change any parts from our 89 onto the 91 engine? Will any of the parts be unusable after the swap? If anyone can help us out with tips, etc. it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!! Dan & Ali

i dont think i can answer all your questions, but i know this has been brought up before, so im sure you could search some past threads for any info you might need.

i dont think youll have to switch any parts from the 89 to the 91 engine if it is complete, if they are both 3.0 motors then maybe just the computer if there is a different code on the 91 unit. otherwise im fairly sure it will be pretty straightforward, but i am by no means an expert on any of this, so i will leave it to the other guys to stop me if im wrong.

good luck and let us know how it goes!

If you leave the heads on the donor motor, the most I think you'll need is a good set of tools including a torque wrench, a set of the little clamshell tools for disconnecting A/C and fuel lines, and a shop manual in case you forget where something goes! :)

The '91 into an '89 is a 100% direct-swap. It'll be up to you to decide how much, if any, preventative maintenance you want to give the donor motor before installing it.
