Well my engine finally gave out on me and slung a rod while drivng back from work the other night. I was just wonderng do you have any knowledge or no anyone that does about if a late model mustang gt engine will fit in it. I was thinking about maybe puttin a engine from a 1996-2000 GT motor in it. Well write me back tell me what you think i should do. Thanks.

The only one I saw with what you describe , it was a 2000+ taurus (basicly the same as the 96-99) with a 32 valve 4.6 from a Mark8 , cause its FWD.

Even that will set you back a couple grand just in parts , plus fabrication , wires , and such and such.

So nevermind doing anything with a rwd combo from a mustang.

Sell it , buy a stang and call it a day.

First:

It's a 3rd gen SHO. You didn't sling a rod, the camshaft sprocket slipped and you bent a bunch of valves and/or cracked a piston or 4.

Second:

There is almost no way in **** a Mustang motor's gonna fit without a REALLY LARGE AMOUNT of work. Honestly, unless you have about $10k sitting around doing nothing, I wouldn't bother.

The Mark 8 is not FWD. The Continental is FWD.

I don't see any reason why a 4.6 from a Mustang wouldn't fit in there and I can't see it costing 10k do get done especially if you are doing most of the work yourself. It's your car and if you want a 4.6 in there I say go for it. I would love to see a swap like this done. If the the motor in my Gen 2 ever dies I have been thinking abut a similar swap but I am almost convinced that my motor will last longer than the body.

the Sho v8 is a 60* v8 while the mustang and continental motors are both 90* v8's, making them alot wider. Good luck stuffing a 90* engine where a 60* engine doesn't even fit properly.

I read some where a while back that someone fit a 32v, 4.6 from a continental in a late model Taurus, 2001 IIRC so I don't see why a 4.6 wouldn't fit in a Gen 3. We can all speculate whether it will fit or not, only way to know for sure unless someone tries it. And perspnally I would love to see it get done.

Yes, someone on TCCA got a continental motor (DOHC 4.6) into a Taurus. He had to run the rad fans on the front of the rad, and a bunch of other mods, to get it to fit, but it did fit. A SOHC 4.6 bolted up to the continental tranny would fit a lot easier. It's doable.

Is it worth doing though? Probably not.

I don't think the TCCA guy ever drove the car either or got it running.

DOHC engines kind of by definition are huge pigs. If you're going to swap a motor, you might as well drop a SBC in there and call it a day.

Damn that thing looks crammed in there, after seeing that I would definately not go that route. I would just find another 3.4.

I don't see what the big deal is about this swap. lincolns go cheap at auction. buy a good running car. swap the subframe including engine, transmission, wiring, and ecu. I don't see why this would take more than a weekend.

I guess we know what you're doing next weekend. Please report back on the simplicity Monday morning.

The guy that did that at ford (put the intech into the taurus platformed continental) got fired. He was over weight and over budget. A lot.

But you should be fine.

Paul, there is also a 00-07 Taurus that someone swapped a Conti drivetrain into. That one looked more complete, and was running AFAIK.

Either way, it's a bad idea.
