engine rebuild

My 150 k car is showing signs of piston chatter. It would appear that a total rebuid is needed. My question is what is the best way to remove the engine. Is it out the top or dropped through the bottom.

traditional technique is to drop the subframe out the bottom. We just pulled mine (engine & tranny - 1 assembly) out through the top tonight in my 89.
