Well, as of lately my car has been making some noises.. maybe a week, its been 'rattling' from the engine compartment, its really apparent when idleing. Yesterday/Last nite TWO people asked me what that rattling was, well today I checked it out and it sounds like its coming from the Belt next to the engine,( i dont' know teh tech. terms) Neways it sounds like a bearing or soemthing is going bad? does this sound like the issue or is it something else.

Going to need som more info JO. Describe more the sound you hear, and where exactly it is coming from (as best you can ascertain). When you say bearing, to what are you reffering, rod/main etc, or a bearing from an idler pulley? A bad A/C clutch can make a rattling noise, and a bad idler pulley bearing is not a pretty sound either, but going from the info you have provided I do not know what to tell you. If you can source a tool that will allow you to listen more closely to your engine (a long screwdriver or even a wooden handle) maybe you can narrow it down a bit. Hope it is nothing serious.

I'd put money on the water pump. It's probably getting ready to fail. Of course my pump has been making that rattle/wobble noise for a few thousdand miles now... Hasn't started leaking yet though.

I have the same problem on my black '91 and was told that it is the timing belt tensioner. My sound it more of a ticking than a rattling though. I haven't changed it though, because I will be selling it.

The sound seems like its coming from farther back in the engine... closer to the dash. The noise kinda sounds like a grinding/ticking. Almost like making metal against metal, thats why I thought a bearing or something! I can't really describe it without making the noise aloud. LOL. Sorry.

Well it sounds like the back idler/tensioner pully. Very expensive from Ferd. Get a '99 Gen 3 idler pulley instead and just replace the pulley or beaing, your choice. ~$30.00

It looks like the ver back/bottom pulley way in the back, farthest from the front has a wobble in it, it moves ever so slightly. Anyone know the best place to buy them??
