Hey there people,... I already posted this on automotiveforums.com with not much response. Maybe you can help me:(copy/paste message from AF)
----------------------------------------
Hey there peoples,

Tonight I just took a 95 SHO MTX out for a test drive... I asked my buddy who has a 92 a few q's.... but forums can be better.

1- Stiff shifting... is this normal? the clutch feels okay but the gears are pretty dam stiff to shift into.

2- engine noise... right from the start to the end of the hour long test drive. The engine makes an intermittent ticking sound every few seconds. Like:

tk tk tk tk 3 to 5 seconds pass then tk tk tk tk

(not too loud but I notice these things) I couldn't exactly notice where the sound was coming from (just afraid that is may be the waterpump or something like that (a/c maybe - he says the A/c doesn't work but doesn't know if it just needs a recharge)

My buddy says his makes a constant ticking noise.. not intermittent like this one (he hasn't heard this car, and he lives way too far away for me to check out his) He thinks it might be the "sequential multiport fuel injection"

Let me know what you think SHO guru's

-------------------------------------

One more question guys... the clutch pedal travels right to the floor... it works, but goes all the way down... is this normal?

If it's the stock clutch, then your friend's noise is probably just clutch chatter. Does it go away when the clutch is depressed? Try it out on the 95, too. The noise could be one of several things... Is there anything loose that's rattling? Is the maintenance up to date(that could narrow the search)? Make sure nothing's touching the belts or pullies, the battery can come loose and start rubbing and throwing debris. Also check around the radiator fan to see if anything, like a hose or wire cover is bumping it. Since I'm not there it's hard to diagnose, but it MIGHT be electrical??? Make sure the wiring and grounds are secure....
These are just a few things to look into, I hope I helped some. If nothing comes up it could just be that you're driving an SHO and those things happen.

Try lifting up on the clucth petal the cable may be out of adjustment. Or it maybe time for a new clutch package. As for the sound does it only happen when its driving? If not what genral area is it comming from? Try shutting off the climate control and see what happens. If the AC is low on charge it could be the Ac compressor clicking on and off. While you are in there pull out a plug wire and see what the well looks like see if there is any oil on them. How many KM's on this car?

Thanks for the response guys... I'll try to give enough info.

The noise is coming from the belt side of the engine (I think) I didn't notice anything bumping or rubbing. I wish I knew this car better.
it has a little over 192,000km , requires front left lower ball joint and front left outer tierod. (A/C should be fixed for the summer too)
has new all season Crappy Tire brand (predator) rubber on stock alloys that have been taken of for the winters. (225/60/16) lil fat for winter.
Seems like the guy did take okay care of it.
but I will take it to a mechanic.

I am not familliar with this yamaha engine like I am with the GM 3.1 in my Z24.(my baby)
I know the SHO is faster etc... but I am buying the SHO for a second car to save kms on the lil'Z24 (I can't drive slow cars)
(the SHO will be my gettin to work rocket../sleeper rice killer... I am now putting on ~2000km per month and I don't want to do that to my 14 year old Z with still under 150,000 km's 2nd place JCO S&S winner 2003)

BTW I'm in the kitchener waterloo area now.(outskirts)
