So, I am looking to buy a 1997 Ford Taurus SHO and the car seems to be mis-firing. I was told by the seller that the car has a coil and it needs to be replaced. Is this a possible situation? Also, how much would it cost to replace such a thing?

you can get coils on ebay for about $25. Probably a bad coil but it cvould be something else. There are 8 coils so tracking it down might take some time to narrow down or cost a few bucks to get a few to rplace a batch. The rear surge tank (part of the intake) can be a PITA for changing plugs and coils. You might want to do all the rear bank if you pull the surge tank off. Make sure you know what the problem is before you buy it.

Yea most likely it's the coils, very common problem. They are about $100 each from Ford so definitely shop around.
