A stock SHO will run just fine on 87 octane. it may take the computer a few trip cylces to relearn it but it shouldnt cause a MIL to illuminate.

it just stays on for a bit then goes off, and i havent noticed or felt anything wrong with the engine so i think im good to go, may something was stuck open or was out of range or something

My 89 has only gotten 87 octane in the 4 years and 54k miles I've driven it.

Pull your codes and see what the memory codes are.

car runs fine though

Honestly... that doesn't mean something isn't wrong. Your computer is giving you a code because it has found a fault in the system. Check them and see what comes up.

I run my SHO on the cheapest gas and it runs fine.

Check codes, buy my guess is the 02s. The check engine light on my 95 with bad 02s would come up twice as much with 87 octane then 93.

ran my codes this is what i got

116
114
519

so there for my raditor coolant sensor was out of range

IAT was clogged stuck upen

psp circuit switch

If the engine was cold (not at operating temp) and the ambient was below 50F, that will explain the 114 & 116 codes.
