I have a 93 ATX, how long should I expect this engine to run? I regularly maintain the oil, filter and such. But have never heard how long these engines should last. Thanks..

All depends on maintenance...there are a few on this board with 250,000+ miles on their SHO's. Its a very good engine if well maintained. thumbs_u

change best quality oil and filter regularly, should get 300K easily, maybe more with synthetic, ce.rtainly more with a dual filtration set up using a bypass filter

Check the mileage in the signature. This was accomplished with proper preventative maintenence, no abuse and Castrol GTX oil. She just spent a big chunk of 200 miles at speeds over 100 mph yesterday on the Lone Star SHO Club's Winter Run and yes, she can still hit 140 mph.

I replaced the connecting rod bearings at 269,000 miles, but other than that, only seals and valve shims have been replaced on the engine to allow it to achieve this mileage.

Just turned 170,000 miles. Nearly problem free the entire time, and she's never left me stranded.

My 93 ATX just turned 110K Yesterday, and it doesn't have a hint of tiredness whatsoever!! God bless those techs at Yamaha for giving our cars an excellent engine, with the ability to achieve such high mileage... The engine is one of the most durable engines ever built!! wink
