I have 1994 Ford Taurus SHO MTX with 251000 miles. Recently, I have changed the timing belt on this car. After driving for about 500 miles, the car has developed engine knock. I am not sure where this is coming from. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Please help!
You can hear it knocking here:

Timing belt tensioner.

Thanks for fixing this embed link. I think it might be the tensioner because I have used one off a junkyard that looked new but also looked as if it was not running for many years. My question is if a tensioner could make such strong knocking noise?

I had not seen the video prior to my post so, it might just be the tensioner. However if you have seen your oil light flicker at all it would be a good idea to replace them. Good luck!

It is not the tensioner that is the actual knocking. It is the timing belt. The tensioner is either not set at the correct tension or it fails and allows slop in the timing belt which slaps the inside of the timing cover. I know it's hard to believe, but both ATX's and MTX's can have the same sound and same root cause.

Besides that I would do your rod bearings (if that is not your problem) sometime soon. Too many people have lost motors because of failure.

I had this issue after I did my first 60k. My timing belt tensioner had rotated 360 degrees so the spring became unhooked from the tensioner. The belt would slap the timing cover and it sounded like knock.

Thank you guys for all your replies. I really appreciate all your help. I am going to check that tensioner and see if it's faulty or I have made mistake installing it. I will let you know in a few days what I have found....thanks again
