when i start it you will hear nothing but after about 5 min of idling the knock gets loud and when you give gas it speeds up with motor. now i havent been 100% able to pinpoint where it is coming from but i believe it is (when standing in front of the car it is on the left side of the motor. anyone had this same problem?

taking a wild guess, I'm going to say you have an automatic, then I will guess again and say the knock is on the left side (passenger side) in the back, then I will defy all odds and say the knocking goes away as you rev the motor past 2500 rpms, and returning as the motor slows down.

If this is the case, you have a very common problem: a bad timing belt tensioner. The belt gets just slack enough to cause the #1 cylinder to knock badly.

Are you shure that the noise you hear is a knock (pinging, knock, chattering) try using a higher octane of fuel.
