I am exeriencing severe engine hop when I let my clutch out in reverse. I have all new motor mounts and my trans mount is fine. There should be no reason it is this violent. Please help. Thanks.

Usually involves the clutch, when it is near the end of its life, kind of a first sign to start sourcing a new one.

Its been happening for a while, maybe my transmission mount is the culprit because my motor mounts got replaced. my trans mount has not been replaced since i have owned the car. it also shutters when i am downshifting from 3rd to 2nd, and happens quite violently. would a bad trans mount cause these symptoms, also my clutch has been replaced recently so i doubt thats the issue either.

Make sure your motor mounts are tight, make sure your trans mount is tight, and not broken.

Just because your clutch has been replaced recently, doesn't mean it can't fail....and if I recall...you drive your car pretty hard...

The only reason i dont think it is my clutch is because it did it even with my other clutch i had, all motor mounts are good, so im leaning toward buying a trans mount

it also does it from a 3-2 down shift though so im not sure that it is an internal issue, the car drives great other than this issue im having.

If its more violent when trying to back up a hill it is defenetly the trans mount. Had the same problem with a 95. Trans mount actually looked decent but a new one solved my problem. Not sure if shosource ever got trans mounts, I know rcmautomotive used to have them.

I had this happen once on a SHO that had lost the bushing that the clutch cable sits in on the top of the trans. Without that bushing, the clutch cable can rock a little in the hole on the trans, and that changes the tension on the clutch, so the car would shudder or **** while backing up with the clutch partly engaged.

it was awful when you were trying to back up any kind of incline. it was no big deal if you were going downhill. I bought a new bushing from SHOsource and was amazed that the problem just vanished.

Yeah I do notice that with regular driving, my clutch pedal seems to move around with engine torque, that must be a symptom of that bushing?

The gear ratio in reverse is quite a bit taller than in first. If you try to go up a hill in 2nd or 3rd, from a stop, you will probably get somewhat of the same result.
Any little problem gets magnified, and that little bushing might be just enough to cause a problem.
In my case, it always meant the fingers were chewed off my pressure plate and the disengagement was not complete, and likely a host of other issues.
I have never actually worn out a disc, but I have had lots of problems with pressure plate fingers and throw out bearings.... usually by the time I buy the car, this problem is the reason it is being sold.

Yeah I looked at the bushing and its basically just floating there, the clips that are supposed to secure it to the transmission are gone.

My manual swapped Vulcan did this until I replaced both of my CV axles. Turned out the inner joints of my re-manufactured axles were binding in reverse. New axles from SHO Source solved my issue.

First thing I suggest is getting a new bushing from SHOsource - they are not that expensive and there is a good chance that will solve the problem.
