Engine Cradle...!!!HELP!!!

I need help here. I've seen Scott drawings/pics of the one he used for his clutch job. I'm really not wanting to go out and build one of these things. I'm doing an R&R on my ATX tranny. I have verything done and ready to drop the cradle but I need the engine cradle to support it.

Can these be purchased anywhere? Or am I stuck stopping at home depot on the way home today? Anyone one in the CT area want to loan theirs out?

Yes, they can be bought, but they're usually much more expensive than making up a cheap one. I used a 4x4 PT piece, with 2x10 ends, & a large eyebolt going through it my first time. All of $25 worth of stuff, IIRC.

Thanks Fred...your setup sounds a lot easier then Scott's engineered piece. Home Cheapo I come. One questions though....how did you cut the 2 x 10 to fit the 4x4?

Try your local tool-rental type places (not Home Depot or a local hardware store -- someplace that rents everything from log splitters and tillers, to Bobcat's, etc.) and ask for a "3-bar transverse engine support".

Last time I rented one it was $12/day. Purchase price is around $200-$300 depending on where you go.
