The car is at a transmission shop having a clutch put in. They pulled the trans friday and the clutch disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing all look good. The syptoms i had that led me to believe it was a clutch was that there was non disengagement, a lot of tob noise and the pedal felt crappy. It grinds to get into every gear (doesnt feel like gears feels like the disengagement issue). My question is, has anyone ever had a clutch not physically look like it was the issue and it was?

This is a 95 MTX, if i am assuming correctly it has a rod shifter? Could there be some kind of adjustment that is out of whack with that? Should i just have them put in the new clutch and pray?

Any info would be helpful

yes you have a rod shifter! and yes it sounds like something to do with your clutch was toast......if it were the tranny you would know for sure!

Usually it's the pressure plate "fingers" that wear down and cause engagement issues, not the clutch disc itself. It sounds like this could be your issue.

Thanks guys im just scratching my head. The guys at the shop told me the entire unit, pressure plate, disc, tob and all looks new. Maybe its just shit parts or the fingers are worn and they just cant tell? Either way i told them to just put the new stuff in anyway since the trans is already out.

Also i forgot to mention just test driving the car and loading it onto the trailer made the clutch smell like it was burning up so score another reason why it should be the clutch.

Well i think i have bigger problems.... There was no fluid in the tranny. The shop forget to tell me yesterday before they put the new clutch in. Everything would have cost the same regardless for labor but still kind of sucks. Now im guessing the tranny is smoked...... I really havent driven it yet but the shop said it still was grinding like it was before the new clutch. No slipping or popping out of gear though.

Disclaimer* I have never driven the car with no tranny fluid. I just bought it with a known trans issue and took it in for a clutch replacement thinking for sure that was the problem.
