My radio keeps reseting itself for some reason. The factory clock seems to keep time. I've noticed my voltmeter that's plugged into the accessory wire to the radio has been flaky lately and requires tapping to work. I've also been having more trouble getting the car started. THe tach needle has been moving erratically. When I say erratically, it will jump.... sometimes up to 1.5k rpms instead of hovering around 450, firing, and starting. I'm not sure what's up. It seems to only reset when I crank the car, but doesn't do it all the time. It seems to do it all the time if I wait a long time. If I just turn the accessories on before starting, the radio isn't reset. Any ideas?

Flakey electrical supply.

Either a bad conection or you have developing alternator/battery/cable problems.

Start by cleaning the battery connections. then clean the connections at the other ends of the battery cables, especially the ground to the engine. Make sure that the radio has a good ground and that all of its connections are clean and tight.

The clock usually uses milivolts, whereas the radio usually uses battery voltage (12+). A drop in voltage would be less likely to affect the clock than the radio, and other components that use battery voltage.

Once the connections are good, make sure the battery is fully charged and that the alternator is charging the battery. If that does not solve the problem start chasing wires! rangerj

The radio memory power comes from fuse #2 a 15A fuse under the dash. It is a light green/violet wire. The radio head unit ground is also important as stated it is a black wire coming off the radio itself. Could be internal too.

more than radio problems here man. check all the grounds and the dis grounds. did you ground the radio to the chassis or did you use a wiring harness? good luck!
