This morning, my '91 MTX had a mini-meltdown that really gave me a fright. It stalled when I tried to take off in first, then EVERYTHING just died -- no lights, radio, anything -- even though the key was still on.

The car has a self-arming alarm system with a remote, and sometimes after the second beep, the power cuts off, and it will not start until the remote button is mashed again. So, I mashed the alarm remote button (just in case) and the alarm started to go off. I mashed it a second time and it beeped off and I was able to restart the car. Very strange. This has never happened before -- even the clock reset to midnight!

The remote and the alarm system has been working fine -- as far as I can tell the remote batteries are still fine. I don't know where to begin to diagnose this problem. I just know that if this happened while I was driving (it is dark when I leave in the am), I would be a sitting duck.

Any ideas? Please share!

Sounds like you lost total power temporarily. I suggest you check the battery terminals and the wires on the starter solenoid in the driver side fender. Look for any loose connections. This could be the problem because we just had that replaced at FPS in ATL in Dec. Also have dad check the battery cables for corrosion, it was a snow belt car. Other than that it might be a loose ECU(computer) connection. Thats not a big issue because the harness is usually bolted to the ECU itself.

Good luck moms
