I was wondering if its ok to buy the stock replacement shocks for the SHO, and then just put some Eibach lowreing springs around them, and put them on the car? has anyone tried this? how does it ride?

I would consider the KYB GR2 to be the minimum strut that I would put on an Eibach. I wouldn't even bother buying Eibach's until you can upgrade from the stock struts.

From what I have read the Eibachs can be pretty cushy compared to the KYB GR2's.

If they can keep up with my "lift off the ground rear-wheel" tight springs for 2years then they could handle the Eibachs, especialy if you do not AutoX etc.

Are you referring to the stock struts or the GR2s?

the stock struts do not really have enough rebound deigned into them to work well with anytype of performance spring. What will happen is it may be ok at first but it will wear the strut out quickly and then it will ride like a pogo stick

I think we're all in agreement here that it would be a mistake to combine Eibachs with stock replacements. If you're after a stock-like ride and you've decided to replace your stock springs with Eibachs, you would probably be very happy with the Eibach/KYB GR2 combination. Even though the dampening of the GR2 is a little bit firmer than the stock strut, because the Eibach is progressive and is initially quite soft you should end up with a comfortable, yet more controlled ride. I wouldn't be surprised if you found the combo more comfortable than stock, yet surprisingly controlled through any kind of turn or corner.

You'd be better off sticking to the stock springs, and going with struts with more rebound control.

Especially with early MTX springs, the SHO has always needed more damping in the stock struts. I ran tokico's on stock springs for a bit, and it was a great combo.

skippie, don't do it.... your car will have a pogo stick type ride with in 10k miles. The stock struts can't control the rebound of the aftermarket springs. Take it from me I tried this on the wifes 93 atx car and ended up installing tokikos a year later and throwing away the motorcraft struts.

Well, I guess I'll just wait and save up and get the Eibach's with some good shocks. I was just hoping I would save a little dough going with stock shocks. But I guess that would be a bad idea. And yeah, I was looking at the GR2's on tirerack too RI-SHO. thumbs_u

Save the money you were gonna spend on the eibachs and spend it on struts. you'll get more driving enjoyment from the struts than the springs.

shocks are totally different than struts. The sho does not have shocks, it has Mcpherson struts on all 4 corners. Normally, you will see struts on the front of a car, and shocks if it is a live rear axle or struts it it's IRS, but there's always exceptions to that.

The struts are from multinational companies. I think if you know the product you're looking for you may find distributors on the European Continent somewhere. Would shipping from here still be a less expensive option?
