Helping troubleshoot the '91, it has an issue with intermittent stalling that is somewhat random. Some days it is fine (so far the warmer days) and others it stalls repeatedly. The codes that get stored are 14 and 19. From reading some of the archives, it appears that there is a problem with wiring, computer, or DIS.

Can anyone confirm with experience what might be going on here? The CID has oily residue, so that could explain the problems/code set there. The fact that CPS and CID are both being set seems to indicate something in the circuit, or a computer related fault.

If the DIS is at fault, will the tests that can be run at AutoZone fail it for intermittent issues?

Any help is appreciated in getting this issue under control! :thankyou:

code 14= PIP circuit failure. Suspect PIP sensor or TFI module, or grounding or interference problems at the TFI module.
code 19= CID circuit failed.

14 Ignition pickup was erratic - Ignitioon Systems
E4OD Transmission diesel RPM sensor - Diesel RPM sensor

19 (O) No Vehicle Power (pins 37 + 57) or bad PCM VPWR Diagnosis
(R) Erratic idle during test (reset throttle & retest) - Idle Set Procedures
Electronic ignition Cylinder ID sensor/circuit problem - Ignition Systems

without fail, every time I have seen a code for PIP circuit failure, the car needed a new crank sensor. I would start there.

FWIW(its my car)

The car only does this when out of gear. Also it will surge and die sometimes when you are stopped and start to take off. The last few days it seems like if it dies, occasionally it wont like to start back up. 80% of the time it starts back up just fine. But rarely it will try and turn over very slowly(almost like when your battery is dead or very weak, but it is not the battery) if i try and start it immediately after dying. I think if i wait like 15 seconds it will start without much difficult.

If I think of anything else to add, ill post it. It drove perfectly fine in 90+ degree weather...then yesterday it was in the 50s and it was acting up a lot more.

Just for the heck of it, we swapped in a crossover tube from the '94 and reset the codes. The car ran fine, since it was warmer and seems to have more problems when its cooler out. The codes came back despite the lack of any stall-outs. Parts are on order for a Front 60k (as the upper has been done previously). I'm expecting the codes to go away once the sensors are changed out.
