Well after 23k miles on my 2010 SHO the motor let go. Here is the link to some issues I have had with the car since I bought it.

http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=110552

Jump back to 6-7-2011- While driving to my bowling league last night the car started to shimmy and misfire again, the first words out of my mouth were F**K!! Here we go again. It was a good thing I was just about to get off the freeway, as I came to the stop light the car nearly stalls, stumbles and is shaking pretty bad, the last good thing to happen was I was at my destination and pulled right in and parked. I get out of the car go to the trunk to grab my bowling balls and see blue-grey smoked coming from the tail pipes. I go inside set everything down and call my ford dealership and tell them it will be there in the morning, service tech says no problem you can leave the keys in the drop box. So after i'm done bowling I get in the car start it and it instantly turns the parking garage into a smoke house, turn the car off call roadside assistance and have the car towed to the dealership at a 11pm.

Jump to 6-8-2011
8am the dealership call and says the car is safe and they will be pulling it in shortly and asks if I need a rental car? TO me thats a no brainer since I have no car and there is no way it will be fixed by 8pm today.
Now Jump to 4pm today walk up to the service tech Kevin and introduce myself since the only contact we have had has been over the phone, Kevin looks at me and says " Let's get you a rental and make sure you like it, cause your gonna have it a while." From what my wife said the look I gave kevin was down right frightening and she was across the parking lot. Kevin who has been extremely helpful took it in stride, and went into detail how the car had broken at least one piston and that the broken piece had been slammed into the head and cylinder wall. Kevin also said the it will need a completely new motor and that the ecooboost motors are back ordered with NO DATE when one will be available. Kevin was most helpful he gave me a print out of the service history for the car, I also found Fords customer care number online and will be giving them a call to see what thay can do, I dont think its totally out of the question to ask them to buy it back, but will see. To add salt to the wound earlier on 6-7 I spent 3 hours washing and waxing the car and filled it with a full tank of gas.. :madflame: Now what is really frustrating is the car has been to the dealership a total of 8 times in a 16 month period with some stints there as long as two weeks, out of those 8 visits 3 of them were to fix faulty plugs, coil packs, and injectors. This in my mind should not of happend to a car with just over 23k miles. Once I talk to ford Ill post an update and keep everyone apprised of the situation, and to see if necessary taking legal action.

I feel like the service you get at the dealership varies a great deal from one to another, but Ford corporate tends to do the right thing in the end if they get involved.

And Ford does tend to lurk these boards from time to time; the 2013 SHO is proof positive.

Good luck with this all, hope it all works out in the end.

Oh, and the proper terminology for a catastrophic engine for transaxle failure on a Taurus SHO is simply SHOBoom.

what gas co. do you use and what octane? what type of oil do you get for oil changes?
Good questions Unknown Driver... Sounds like my lawnmower that was overdue for oil change and plugs change... I had same blue smoke and cloud of smoke before it didn't start at all... But the big difference is that it cost only 40$ to repair...
For your car, I hope you were not running 85 octane and that the oil changes were done at the dealer regularly (which I presume since you've been there 8 times!). If that is the case, beside not being able to drive it for a while, you should end up with a brand new engine... All-in, it's not so bad. Just trying to cheer you up sir looking at the good side of it.

Wow, not good news. Good luck and keep us updated.
I'm wondering if your issues didn't start at 6k miles and just weren't realized at that time...

Sucks to hear about that Sy. Injectors and plugs were fixed on mine a few months ago and it looks to be the normal items that Ford is looking at when it comes to this kind of damage. Keep us posted on what they do bud. And hopefully they give you a nice rental car, I had an HHR for a few days. It was terrible. :shakehead

Good to see a whole new generation of SHObooms.

Sucks that it had to happen to you, though. :frown:

I dunno, I kinda like EcoBOOM. It's catchy.

I agree though, sucks it happened to you. Hopefully Ford won't take too long to resolve the situation.

we, the Forum Collective, demand carnage pics! it's an unwritten rule that destruction be proudly displayed for all to enjoy, whether intentional or not.

I have changed the oil every 3-4k at the dealership. Nothing less than 87 Oct but the majority its been 91. If I can I will definitely get pics and post them. No mode on the car and all work done has been done at the dealership, so I'll just have to call ford and see what they say.

Insert generic hateful "That's fine, that car isn't really a SHO anyway" comment here

come on now as ford puts it more of less this is the ultimate engine... perfect in everyway... just look at their torture testing... this isnt real... the engine is immortal...

the failure is your imagination...

and yes its not a yamaha engine so the exotic isnt there its just a car that looks like every other car on the road with a engine you can get in almost every other ford product..

its a SHO because the trunk badge says so...
but if thats super high output then my god whats a viper or z06 vette?
extremely super high out?
