I'm getting conflicting feedback on FB....
I have a '15 with a LMS 93 octane 3 bar tune. I will be taking it to the strip for the first time this weekend and was looking for some go fast tips.
A few recommend no more than a 20% e85 mix for some nice gains. While others say there are no gains and is discouraged.
So what's the real deal???

Unless you are tuned to take advantage of it, it is not going to help. I would not do it without being tuned for it.

Rich seems to be the only one I know to make mixing E85 work, but also just dropped the non meth record without using any E85, so who knows. Just go with straight up race fuel.

From Anthony at LMS:

If it were my vehicle, I would run the 93 tune with a few gallons of 100 octane unleaded to let it add all the timing it wants. It's a similar solution to what guys like Rich are doing with their e85 blends, but a bit more expensive of course. If not an option, you could always try and add a small amount of e85 to keep the blend below 20% just to see how your car likes it. But if you are leary of either, you can't go wrong with the tried and true v8 and v10 tunes. The version 10 makes more power without a doubt, but that has caused people to have to figure out their launch and things like that all over again. More power typically means more wheel hop which means slower times until you figure out the sweet spot all over again.

To the OP.....

You are getting conflicting info on FB, and you will continue getting conflicting info, here on the forums.

Why?

Because everyone has differing opinions on it's use. Plain and simple.

You likely won't get any further clarification here either. The flame war rages on. That's about the only fact all will agree upon.

Another fact..... I don't use it. Don't ever care to use it. Period.

I run an E20 mix in mine for the track since all I can get here is 91. I'm Unleashed tuned for both 91 and E20 and the E20 is definitely quicker.

I'm not tuned yet but I have done probably to much reading and have found that in 2013 ford has made these and other vehicles e15 compatible so that fuel itself will be fine to run, that being said the octane of e15 is only around 88-89 depending on where you get it. I had to try it for myself and mixed 93e10 and e85 for a total of e25 and like 95.5 octane and it definitely liked the higher octane for sure. The truth to the fuel as we all know is ethanol is not as powerful as a fuel but it doesn't detonate as soon as gas. As I said I'm not tunes but regardless of that I would only think you should run whatever you are tuned for as the tuner has changed factory curves and the way ford has it set up is now different. That is just my opinion how ever you get to higher octane it will only allow more timing and these engines love timing more than boost!!

I know a few people (especially Rich) has had great results with mixing in some E85. I think he could run tom cat urine in his car and still turn in awesome times.

I did try one gallon to 10 gallons of 93 octane E10 a few weeks ago and ran 12.8 in 2500 DA conditions - about exactly what I run on straight 93 E10. I did try a bit of 102 race fuel with the 93 E10 earlier this year and ran 12.68 but the DA was much more favorable on that day. It might have run just as well without the race fuel on that particular day. I am not really sure of the quality of E85 or the race fuel that I get here. My car seems to run as well on just E10 93 as any mixture. My car is a 2010 so the tune is not the same as your 2013+ versions so my experience may not apply.

Anthony makes good points in Mdrew's post. Maybe experiment a bit but don't exceed 20%. As bpd says, you will get differing opinions on fuel.

Well, had about 3/4 tank of 93 yesterday so I stopped and threw in a few gallons of e85.
I guess we'll see.....

You running it at the track or datalogging to see if more spark is added with e20?

Running at the strip this weekend. Should be logging it i know, just haven't decided what to use for that yet. I'll just add it to the never ending shopping list

We had a Livernois guy running the race tune go in on dyno a month ago. He then added a mix of E/85 and went back to dyno (after me begging him to) on what he considered to be same conditions...picked up 30 awhp.

My last time out where I went 12.05 I had about a 15% mix.

20% is my usual mix until the temps drop below 40*, then it's a lighter mix as the cooler air effects your fuel pressure.

Race fuel would be the best additive though, E/85 is just much easier & cheaper to find most times.

Interesting... So the LMS 4+X tunes will scale spark even further than what 93 octane can do?

I'm running the race tune. This tune really likes high quality fuel/octane. When I first started running the race tune I noticed my KR would get into mid +2 range on 1/4 mile pulls without the added octane from a slight mix of E/85. With it, I rarely see any KR over (+.8 ) on a clean run... I think it's just letting the tune work to its full potential rather than actually "demanding" more.

Almost a year running race tune now (have not run any other tune since getting it), and almost 2 years straight running an E/85 mix (only a few tanks without it).

Gotcha, when I ran their race tune I never had any knock, but I have really good gas around me. I was curious if maybe they were scaling out the OAR more to allow more spark to be added than the usual OAR of -1....

I usually run an 18-20% mix

I'm on e20, it's amazing. Best advice to guys thinking of switching. Go add 2 gallons of e85 to your next fill up. It's enough that you will notice a difference, but not a high enough mix that you'll need to be overly concerned with fuel pressures. And then judge for yourself if you want to run more.
