I pulled the E-brake handle to disengage it so i could back the SHo out of the garage, but it snapped. The wires just gave way after 13 years i guess. So my car is sitting in the garage with the E-brake pressed to the floor. Any ideas on the easiest way to pull it out? Or how would i go about taking off the whole e-brake system total since i dont really need it?

I just bought a '93 mtx. The cable for the parking brake was laying in the back seat. It is very short on the 93 and just goes to the firewall and engages the release mech. You can pull the release mech. buy hand as did the guy I bought this car from. Or you can try what I did. The end of the cable should have a deal crimped on it to fit in the above mentioned mechanism. It probable pulled off. I used a small hose clamp and a wooden dowel. I cut a small segment of the dowel to place inside the hose clamp along with the end of the cable. Tightening the clamp "crimped" the clamp and dowel to the end of the cable. This was placed where it originaly belongs. I'm sure it will wear the cable out eventually, but turned out to be a slick "jury rig"

WOW, i have no idea what that means. I just looked at it and couldnt find what im supposed tobe looking for to save my life. Anybody have any pictures?? Thanks though, i do understand the idea you are portraying. If all esle fails, im going to end up jacking up the car and taking all the tires off and taking it off completely.

Mine broke to. Your brake cable had a little thing that held it in place. You can still release the e brake form inside the car. You just have to find out where the cable used to go. In my 91 if you went STRAIT back to the firewall you could see where the cable would hook onto it, pull it up and itll release the brake.

JC,

Removing the e-brake is not a good idea. Fix it!If the cable failed, replace the cable. Your local library referrence section will have various shop manuals, such as Chiltons, Mitchels, Motors, etc. Look up the E-brake system.

If Texas has an inspection program, you will fail. If you should get into an accident, especially due to brake failure, there are some very serious legal ramifications, including vehicular homicide charges, because you disabled the e-brake. DON'T DO IT. rangerj
