Hey gang,

I pulled codes the other day and I got a hard code of 11 and a stored code of 63 - TPS. As per shotimes, I cleared the codes by pulling the jumper while it was outputting. I then rechecked and got 11's in both KOEO & KOER. Happy day.... NOT.

The car is still bucking worse than a PBR event in Arlington TX. I can hold the throttle steady, yet the car will surge as if I were feathering the pedal and the CE will flash.

My newbie question is that if the TPS is bad, why is it a stored code and not a hard code? Is it because the light flashed instead of staying lit?

You'll only get a hard code on the TPS if it's disconnected, or the PCM can't detect it at all.

Try running with your MAF disconnected and see if that clears up the rough running.

The TP sensor can have an open in it let's say for an example at 3/4 throtle,The PCM wont see a problem with it until you have the throtle at 3/4 and the voltage signal is interrupted. If you do an Engine running test there is a step to snap the accellorator pedal, this test step is for the PCM if it can see the TPS change from .8v at closed throtle to 4.5v at wide open throtle.
Here is where you would most likely see a hard fault for it.Just doing a Key on Engie Off test doesn't check everything.Doing both test's should allways be done when checking out drivability concerns it will make diagnosing easier. :thumb:
I'm sure there is an old Super Star II tester somebody is selling on E bay cheap. This is what I still use today to test all the EEC IV vehicles.
Later :D

Thanks for the help, guys. I've read here that the TPS tend to crap out around 100k, so I ordered a new TPS from Josh @ SHONUT. For the $20, it's cheap enough.
