I don't know how's down there but up here some mufler shops would charge you up to 150 to put straight pipes on your car. The reason why that guy took catalyc converters off is because he sold them for around 300 maybe more and dropped the price of a car that low. again up here if you need a new cat, you just pay for a new aftermarket or whatever catalyc you want and labor if free, because they take your old catt and sell it to scrap for very good price.

My advise:call any muffler shop that's close to the place where the car is located, get a quote from them and, who knows, maybe you'll get a good deal anyway.

Converter scrap prices fell back when all the other commodities prices crashed.
There still worth some $ but not near what they were 1.5-2 years ago.

I have a parts car that had it's cats hacked off, so it just has some short piping coming from the exhaust manifolds. I think people can hear it a mile away. I wouldn't do it.

To be honest , guys, I don't like cats either. They *** all over, make noise, when ***** and scratch leather seats. Now imagine if you take them for a trip in an SHO and they *** and scratch seats and make noise on the way. Who wants so much headache with that? Driving for 350 miles with that, you have to have strong nervous system to take all that that long.

Did you say 350 miles? Do you mean 35 miles?
I have a feeling the car will still be there if you want it.
If the guy has enough tools to hack the converters off, he has enough tools to put some pipes in their place.
Something sounds off about this story.
You could bring a system with you, but you know the studs are broke (or will be) and it is a hard enough job at you own place, never mind 6 hours away.
And you also know there is a good chance that 20 miles into your trip, your alternator light will be on, it will be overheating, or any number of calamaties will befall you.
The guy has already made it a parts car by removing the exhaust.... and I don't think you are getting the whole story. His kind advice on not driving it home doesn't come from kindness.
Take your time on this one.... it is not a steal.

That being said, cats are horrible drivers. They can't reach the pedals and steering wheel at the same time, so it's either throttle or steer. I wouldn't want a cat deciding that for me, and honestly I think you could find a much better driving partner.

LMAO

Car sold to the 1st guy that came to look at it. Didn't even have a chance to get there before it was gone.
