How big of a pain in the ass is it to replace this? Mine has been periodically not working. I took the door panel off and it looks pretty tight to get to. Looks like I can get one from Rock Auto for about $100. I assume I'd need to drill out the rivets and then figure out how to mount the new unit.

Anyone done this?

If you need s drill, you're doing it wrong!

When you open the door there is small black cap that is in line with the door handle. Pull the cap off and use a torx screw driver to loosen, but not remove the screw. Only loosen the screwenought to pull off the bezel around the door lock cylinder. Once the bezel is removed, pull out the lock cylinder. It just falls out. You can use your key to help. Next pull the door handle back to the lock cylinder, but not out like your going to open the door. If you see another torx bit once you remove the door handle, just loosen it, dont remove it.

I think everything else is straif forward.

I'm talking about the actuator, not the door panel or lock. Or am I misreading you?

The door latch and the actuator are all one unit as far as I'm aware on all the Taurus?

What year is your car again?

Ok. So how much of a job is it to replace?

I think I gave you the hard part. It's just a matter of getting the pannel off and 3 more torx screws that hold it in. Then wiggling it out. The assembly is a little bit bigger than the latch as there's some brakettry that is attached and have to be transferred over.

I dont think it's that bad of a job, but that's a matter of opinion. And opinions are like.... ;)

Looks like a trip to the dealership at some point. I got everything back in place except the rod that attaches to the cylinder. What a pain in the rear end. At least the power locks work again, so I'll put off getting the cylinder fixed for awhile.

Why is that? Did you break something?
No, I just couldn't get the rod/bracket to stay in place. I might mess with it again at some point. I was just glad to get the actuator installed. That window channel bracket is a bitch.
