I just finished installing my clutchmasters Stage 1 clutch in my 92. When i go in reverse and try to let the clutch out quickly the whole front of the car shake severely. If i ease the clutch out slowly its fine. Driving forward its fine with the exception of what seems like clutch chatter when u slip it at idle. My initial thoughts are a bad rear motor mount or maybe a bad axle. Has anyone had a problem like this? I want to get the car in better condition before it goes on the dyno.

bad mounts. Typically, it's ither a bad rear mount and/or trans mount. Brake torque the motor in reverse w/ the hood up. lock the ebrake and heel the brake pedal. Slip out the clutch and romp the throttle and quickly clutch in. The motor should excessively pull up and "slam" back down.

Did you resurface the flywheel prior to installation?
I sure did! I will try the brake toque deal tomorrow after work and see what it does. I was doing the same thing before just without the ebrake on.

Mine stopped doing exactly this after I swapped to ALSFB's. The rubber bushings that came out looked like garbage.

I still have a very bad reverse mount (front mount), and it doesn't do it.

This is a good point, make sure your subframe is torqued at the very least!

I believe the front mount is for forward gear loads, as you load foward, the motor will want to life backwards. Vice versa for reverse.

I had a similar problem that was the result of a worn out pressure plate. I had put in a used HD pressure plate along with an Autozone clutch and after a few hundred miles the car was nearly impossible to drive as there was such a fine line of too much/too little clutch...and when this happened the engine shook VIOLENTLY. I'm talking so bad that it seperated the y-pipe from the catback, popped the airbox loose, and broke a front mount...not fun.

Was the clutch and pressure plate a matching set? Brand new???
