When I installed my drain plug I used a plug within a plug. That way I didn't risk the threads going into the case.

How does a plug within a plug work?
Wouldn't it unthread the plug thats on the case on the way out if it got stuck or whatever?

It could, but it's probably put in with a little bit of red loctite to help keep it in.

As long as the torque on the part that's threaded into the trans is higher than the torque on the plug, it should stay.

I used loctite on the threads that went into the case. I double wrench anyway. I wanted to prevent any excess wear and tear on the aluminum case. I used Teflon tape on the plug going into brass. I used brass because it is softer than aluminum and was available over at the Home Depot.
