I'm puttin' some Clarion 6.5's in my front doors, and the car had premium sound but I'm not using it. I already have 6x8's in the rear and I've just run new wires directly from the CD deck. My question is:

Should I try and run new wires from the deck to the door speakers (scary!) or should I try and pick up on those wires inside of the car?

If I splice into them when they're alredy in the car, which is what I'd prefer to do, where I can I find them at?

Why didn't you use a wiring adapter with the rear amp bypass? I think that's the easiest route. Anyway, I also think running wires through the door is a PITA and would suggest using the wires already in there. You will see the colors on the wires and they should correspond with the wires under the dash at the oem stereo harness. Just clip and splice.

My suggestion is to use the existing wire that is connected to the stock speakers. If you get an amp bypass harness, the speakers will be running off of the HU.

I would've gone the bypass route, but the previous owner hacked up all the wiring installing his "system". I'll check to see if the colors correspond on the small square connector behind the radio.

What you're trying to do can be done by several different methods.

1 - Use the existing wires for your door speakers which should be fine unless there are shorts in them. There are only 2 wires in there once you take the door panel off and expose the speakers. One's positive and the other is negative. Easy enough. To use the existing wires, just cut the wires off at where they connect onto the speaker. Trim the end off, strip it nice and clean and tin the end. Then solder the freshly cut end onto the new speaker.

2 - You can try to re-wire them. A real PITA, but it can be done. With this you'd want to cut the wire off before the connector so it can be pulled through the door at the jam. I would suggest cutting the end of the wire off first, stripping a section of it off and solder your new wire to the end of it so while you're pulling the old wire out you can pull the new wire through at the same time. **** 2 birds with one stone.

In order to find the wires inside the car to pull on, you'll need to find where they come through the door jam. Just use a flashlight and jiggle them at the jam and you'll see them move inside the car. You will need to have a neck made of rubber and an extremely good chiropractor when you're done with this method so prepare yourself. wink

Out of the 2 methods...I'd opt to use the stock wiring. wink

Alright, there's a little round thing between the door and jamb that I assume houses all the wires that go through door jamb, below it there's the little crinkly hose/wire loom thing.

Is there a way to get into that and pull at the wires?

There's also a big rubber mat thing covering where all the wires come through at the kick panel, it's quite a hinderance, are there screws hidden somewhere on it? I don't see 'em right off hand.

One other miscellaneous thing. I saw a small white round waterproofed connector, I thought maybe it was a Premium sound harness going back to the amp, but no wires appeared to match. Anyone know what this is?

Also, does anyone have a schematic of the premium, non-JBL system so I can see where else inside the car to pick the wires up? The Chilton Taurus manual has a Chassis electrical schematic but I cannot, for the life of me, find audio equipment on it.
