So I read over in SHOTimes.com that they say to silicone around the door edges where the plastic edge of the door panel meets the metal of the door.

My question about that is: Am I supposed to silicone the actual door panel in place so I can't pull it off again without breaking all the silicone? Or would it be just as effective to mark off the panel on the door & then apply some silicone where it would sit & let dry & set, then reattach the door panel so it can still rest against it to absorb vibrations & rattles? I think that would make more sense but not sure how effective it would be

Part 2:
The white plastic covering that goes over the inner door panel is vibrating against the new speakers & door panel because the door panel is a bit tighter of a fit now. I was thinking about installing the Dynamat to also help with vibrations & sound. Should I just remove the plastic layer & replace with the dynamat? Or should I put the dynamat over it?

Thanks for any input!

I would assume if you use the silicone you just put a small thin bead around where the door panel meets the door, let it dry, and then put the panel on. But I'm with zblackbeast on this one. I would just tighten up all the screws and replace any missing/broken clips...

I only replaced the clips on a broken door and the driver's side door but it doesn't squeak anymore and it feels like a new car, at least when I'm closing my door.

what plastic cover are you talking about? the thin clearish/white stuff glued onto the entire metal door structure?

if you want to dynomat the door, ditch that shit and just put the dynomat down

good luck fixing door rattles on this vintage of Ford SHO, or any ford of these years

best you can do is make sure all the clips are present, and in good working order. Make sure all the screws are in and tight. Make sure the actual door panel doesn't have any cracks anywhere... I notice mine on the gen 2 like to crack where the door latch area is...

I've already replaced all the fasteners with brand new ones and tightened up all the screws, it still rattles. I'll try applying the silicone first & then install the door panel. I'll also take your advice raff18 & put it around the window switch holder. Thanks!

Turns out it was the stupid plastic cover for the new Kenwood crossovers that I installed that was causing the rattle. D'oH! All is well now. I think I will go back in later however and replace the plastic sheet with dynamat & silicone the edges. But that's another day.
