Hi, I'll start out and introduce myself. My name is Bart, and I am a SHO addict. My first was a 96 V8. I still have that, and my first post here was for a CAI for it.

This however is my first real post here. And it will be a doosie.

So everyone knows, the car in question is a 87 Sable wagon with a 89 SHO Engine and 5 Speed. Some here will probably know what the car is. Short story, it is the one built by the Ford engineer back in the 90's. It is white and gray.

Anyway, my door ajar light is on. Sorta. Now, to start with, I have WD-40'd all the latches. And the light goes on and off just as it is supposed to. As long as the headlight/running lights are off.

When driving around during the day, it works just as it should. All the doors work as one would expect. Any door activates the light, and it goes back off when the door closes.

Now, when I turn on the lights to drive at night, the Door Ajar light comes on and stays on, regardless of the doors being open or not. As soon as I turn the lights off, it goes back off. And for diagnostics, I tried this with the ignition off, and the Door Ajar light does not come on when the key is not on, even thought the headlights are on.

I read the notes supplied about the conversion back in day, since the cluster was from the SHO donor car, and in the notes, it said that the Liftgate Open light was hooked to the Door Ajar light. Interestingly enough, when I open the liftgate, the Lamp Out light comes on.

Really, I am open to any help or suggestions. I know I have bought a "unique"car. I love it to death, and want it to be as nice as it can be. Little things like that drive me mad.

Anyone have any ideas where to start? Thanks

Alright, I got it figured out. It was one of the taillights. Apparently the wire for the liftgate open is hooked to the lamp out, and the taillight out is hooked to the door ajar. So somewhere, a wire is crossed.

Anyone in the Reno or Sacramento area that is good at tracking old custom wiring?

Welcome! I am glad you are enjoying the car! I was sad to hear Chris was selling it, but good to see it's still in the community. I was one of the past owners, and it never bothered me that the 'lamp out' came on when the liftgate was open. I never had a light out, so I didn't have the problem you are having. I'm sure you will have to pull the cluster to find the wires that are mixed up. It would make more sense to have the 'door ajar' light come on when the liftgate is open for sure! Hopefully all of the wiring diagrams will help with what is what from the Sable and the SHO parts, and you can figure out what needs to be where!
