Does the PCM need all of its capacitors?

That may seem like a silly question, but in the midst of my car woes I decided to tear apart the PCM. Well, it turns out one of the caps blew apart (marked 16v 47µf16 if you are keeping score). So, any idea if this may have something to do with my inability to produce spark?

I may need a whole new PCM at this point, but I'm going to see if I can find a replacement.

Yes, all capacitors need to be undamaged. If one blew, you can be sure others already have as well, though maybe not as spectacularly.

Time for a new PCM.

well if you just wanted to try you could for s hits and giggles... Here's a link for the replacement capacitor.http://www.vetco.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=13996 Its $1.49. All you need is a solder sucker a solder gun and solder with fluk . Basic knowledge of electronics. There could have been damage to the board or track if that is so you can use a CircuitWriter Pen if the damage is not severe http://www.amazon.com/CircuitWriterTM-Precision-Pen-silver-based-grams/dp/B0002BBVQO $18.64. let us know how it goes.

I tried, but it blew out the bottom and chewed up the PCB. I think the traces are damaged, which means this is too much for me. I posted over in the WTB section.

edit: Just bought a X2J from another member. Even if this doesn't solve my problem with starting, the old one was definitely busted. Just bummed I wasted $65 on a DIS!
