First , most write-ups for maintenance are here: http://www.shophoenixproject.com/

If you go in a garage , it will end up costing you , even the Ford mechanics donno jack shit about these motors , so if you can do minimal repairs , I suggest you do it yourself.

There are 2 main '60K maintenance' areas. Upper & front. Really should be called '100K's, as thats when they usually need them.
Basic 'Upper' is usually done when you have oil in the plug wells. So pull the intake, & thats a good time to clean it. Pull valve covers & replace gaskets. While your there, then do the valve adjust-I have a shim kit to rent for that with all the tools. Replace plugs & wires. $250-$450 labor plus parts.
Basic 'Front' is usually when the water pump or CPS go out. So, there is more dis-assembly to get to them so you replace the water pump,CPS, Timing Belt, Acc belt(s). Also a good time to do the Front Main, cam seals & cam sensor, thermostat & coolent flush. $350-$550 labor plus parts.

To check IF you need to do the upper 60/100K (as Bill explained above) pull the plug boot (carefully so you don't rip it apart internally) and look down the hole to see if there is any oil or other debris in there. If it's clean someone probably has already done the valve covers/plug well seals. I'm not sure what the BEST tell-tale sign of the front 60/100K is.

If you dont have alot of mech experience i wouldn't try it. Replacing the gaskets, waterpump, CPS is pretty easy. But the valve lash adjustment is pretty intimidating IMO.

honestly, if you are a little mechanically inclined and have access to quality tools, you will be fine to do it yourself. At a minimum you should be able to do the front 60k. Just give yourself a couple days back to back to allow you to take your time.

The top 60k is the only part that will require special tools, i think. If you are uncomfortable doing the valve shims you could bring it to someone like NESHO to do it for you. At that time you could have them do the plugs and wires, since it doesn't require any additional labor.

Really, just do your homework and read up on what it involves. It can be intimidating, but its not rocket science. If you decide you dont want to do it yourself, i would HIGHLY recommend bringing it to someone who really knows the SHO.

NESHO is under 200 miles from you. I am in Brookfield, CT (Fairfield County) and it is just about dead even 100 miles door to door.

AS for SHO Specific in the area, NESHO, PASHOSHOP or maybe you can bribe Hamal.

Tru dat. I had my valve cover gasket replaced at Ford. Perfect time to check valve lash, but I was told SHO's don't have adjustable valve lash.. Apparently they don't have a timing belt either? Who would'a thought?

Yet they got offended when I asked if they were comfortable working on it and had experience with these motors.

1 Timing belt, 2 timing chains, and they aren't adjustable per se.. you have to measure, then swap out shims to get them back into spec.

That guy has never seen a SHO... he would frighten me..
