Disscussion on the center console!!!!

SO i have the 92 mtx.
Most of you know what my center console looks like. I see some of you guys wanting to change out the console. I just want to know why? I happen to like the compartment that flips up and down. I also love the fact that i can have not one, not two, but four cup holders at my finger tips.
Now how awesome is that?
I can't think of any other car that has four cup holders in the front.
I also like the bottom tray that has a slide cover. I usually hide my phone charger in it.
What are your guyses takes on the center console?

Owning only Gen 1's, I agree.
The 89's had a hood while the 90-1's had the slide cubby.

I've both consoles; currently in a 92' and a 93'. And I've owned more than a couple Gen1s.

The Gen1 interior is a lot better than the Gen2. Especially the center console.

I think no center console looks great in a second genn......but thats just me.

personally I prefer the Gen 2, but I have a Gen 1 because it came with my car. Perhaps my favoritism towards the Gen 2 could be because of my love for the Mazda mx6, which has a center console more resembling the 2, with a full sized armrest that goes down several inches for storage. I also don't like the big plain area around the shifter on the Gen 1s, and the millimeter of storage in the armrest doesn't help me either.

I like that the Gen II console contains and covers stuff in the armrest rather than having everything out in the open and jammed under the armrest like in the Gen I. I'm a neatfreak. Stuff tended to gather up in all the places open on the Gen I. I did like the slide cubby on the Gen I though- since I don't smoke, the ashtray was a waste to me on the Gen II. I like the "flow" of the Gen II console better...
