I am cleaning my intake today, and while doing so I noticed the DIS module had silicone all around its edges. I decided to take off the module, and I found that somebody had siliconed the whole backside of the module. I am wondering if this module measures anything, or is it just a connector of some sort. What exactly does the DIS do? Can anybody fill me in. Also, wouldnt the silicone on the back of the DIS module keep it from making a good contact with the intake manifold, or does it even need a good connection.

What you found was most likely Heat sink compound. the DIS module uses the intake as a place to dissipate heat, and the heat sink compound helps to transfer that heat and fill in the voids. The screws on the DIS module ground it, the back is meant to dissipate heat. If you removed any or all of the heat sink compound it would be a good idea to go buy some more (Radio Shack should have it).

Well what I found was clear, and rubbery. I am almost possitive it was silicone. Can anybody give me a description of heat sink compound. What color is it.

I am pretty sure heat sink compound is clear. You should be able to find it at most parts stores. The DIS is the Distributorless Ignition System,(as previously stated) and it processes signals from the sensors and input from the computer and sends signals to the coil. Basically, it uses electronics to take the place of the mechanical distributor, which allows the computer to control the timing.

The heat sink compound behind my DIS was white... just like the stuff I use on electronics in computers, stereos, etc.
