DIS interchangeability

On my way to the junkyard. I need a new DIS for a 94 atx.

Anyone know what other models/years are interchangeable. I thought I saw the thunderbird was but when I look at autozone they have different part #'s listed.

You could try the thunderbird SC DIS, but it will be just as hard to find a SC at the yard than an SHO. Any DIS from any Gen 1 Gen II SHO will work.

Yeah, Just got back. There were definitely no thunderbird SC's. There were 3 SHO's but the two with engines didn't have the DIS. That was u-pull. Maybe I should try the "counter" one.

How much should I pay for one at a junkyard since you never know if it's good.

How are the Wells from autozone?

You've confirmed this? If it's true I'd be pleasantly surprised. The 2.3L is a 4-cylinder engine w/dual plugs which means it fires 4 coils and not 3 coils as is the case with a V6 SHO or SC.

I believe it's a different unit inside.

No I am sorry, it IS different, sorry for the confusion the 3.0 and 3.8 SC's are different from the 2.3L. I misunderstood what I read in the Ford DIS Tech Manual.

Do all of the MTX's DIS's interchange? I have three, 92, 93, 94. The 94 I think has a bad DIS and I would like to know if they are interchangable so I can check it with DIS from one of the other cars.

Have you by chance taken the existing DIS to an autoparts store to be tested and ensure its defective. Especially since they're kind of a pricey new, hard to locate used, and they're not on the list of commonly failing Ford parts, plus they either work or dont. If not the test is free and only takes a couple of seconds...that is as long as the parts store has the correct coupler, it took me a few tries before I found one that had the right one. The autozones around here that I tried didnt have the right connector, although Ive seen other posts which stated that theirs did. In my case Murray's did the test and it passed, which led me to CPS which was bad and saved me around 150 bucks. Obviously the cps is a little more labor but its 1/3 the price new.
If it is indeed the DIS try taking a look in the parts for sale part of the forum.
