Did I just mess up my axle?

I have been fighting the struts for a couple of days on and off. Finally got the first one out of the front. When it came out, the spindle/hub moved a lot more than I expected. Currently it will move straight into the car. toward the engine/transmission a couple of inches.

If I seperated something, can it be easily realigned before I out everything back?

I don't like this suspension at all. My Mustang is much easier.

if the axle was pulled out to far the inner boot would have came off to. so take a look at the boot and make sure it is still on all the way. if that checks out then when you get it all back to gather rotate the hubs to make sure it spins and that it dont bind up. if you have any other questions just send me a pm and I will get back to you.

After you remove the axle nut get a rubber mallet(or something soft to protect the threads on the axle) and give it a good whack. The axle should move slightly inward and be free.

the inner CV joint has about 2 inches of play in/out relative to the tranny. there are three rollers attached to the shaft that slide in channels inside the CV part thats attached to the tranny. that allows for the suspension to move around. the outer joint has virtually no play, it simply flexes. this setup is common in FWD vehicles. once you do a couple of front struts the job gets much easier.
