We may disagree on what 'rust free' means.

Does that mean its rust free;

1.....Like no rust anywhere? No bubbles, no residue from drain holes, no surface. A 3 on the scale?

2.....Or does that mean rust free to the view of a glancing eye, cant see so it doesnt exist? Bondo'd and painted over.

3.....Or in my case, rust free means to me that you can see no orange, its been perfectly covered in gloss black rustoleum. :nut:

im not really sure if 1 is even possible... that would basically mean that there is no moisture whatsoever.... which is hard to do...

have a look under my car sometime... texas car... but still has a bit of rust on the subframe, and under the radiator (duh)... its solid and not flaking off, but it is still brown... other than that... the body has no rust on it anywhere, including the gas cap area

In Wisconsin, I consider a "rust-free" description in a car ad as "I am throwing in the rust for free!"

But in all seriousness, I look at "rust free" as no surface rust and no structural rust on the major components (certain things are going to rust because they aren't painted or protected from the elements originally from the factory and they won't hurt the car if they do rust).

If a car has had rust damage in the past and it was improperly repaired (bondo work, painted over, etc.) then it will come back and you can't really say it is "rust-free" then. Rust is there. It's hiding and temporally covered up, but it's there.

To me it means no rust on the inside bottom edge of the doors wheel wells or any metal on the body and no rotting of the floor pan when looking under the car, no bondo

I agree with the no structural rust, not repaired or covered over.

Out here in the land of no salt and fairly neutral soils, rust free really means it.

We have parts car, and I mean parts cars with no interior, paint failed, and still no rust on the outside or even underneath. We really have a hard time parting some of these cars out since they are not really dead, just need paint and seats.

My wife races an early 80s RX7, so I have a couple parts cars. One has over 300k on it, and it still has no rust on the body. Keep in mind that the body metal is thin enough I can dent a fender with my thumb, but still no rust instide or out.

If you ever want to restore an older car, let us know. Just about any car out here is cancer free from a sheet metal standpoint.
