I'm usually a computer wiz and technologically sound, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to data log. I've recorded a few data logs with my SCT device but I can't get the files off the device using my computer and live link, the software isnt communicating with the device and the device no longer shows a strategy code when plugged into the car. Any tips? Can't reach SCT tech support so here I am. Thanks.

Have you tried contacting your tuner?
I feel the programmer has broken somehow and probably need a new one.

I'll see what GH thinks, I did set the car back to stock and reload the tune file just out of curiosity and it still pulls up all the gauges so it can still communicate with the car.

Well that's good news have you tried a new cable or flashing firmware?

definitely try a different cable. Not showing a strategy is fine, as most tuners mask the strategy to prevent copying with HPTuners.

Datalogging locally on the device itself was a problem back when I was using an X3 on my truck... The best luck I had with Livelink is to use a laptop in the car doing the datalogging live.

It doesn't prevent copying, it just makes it tougher on paying customers to use 3rd party software and even Ford IDS. Changing the OSid is easily reversible once you know where it's stored.
Laws are made for law-abiding people. Locks keep honest people honest. Etc.... Etc.... Why is Ford so far behind in people sharing information? I actually have been learning how to tune my vehicle from the Chevy forums.... They share all the OMGsecrets of tuning. The only thing that makes sense is Ford tuners are greedy. There are so many LS tuners nobody cares if you happen to have similar tables.

Nah you got it all wrong bro. Tuning is 50% sorcery, 40% voodoo, and 10% manna. Mere mortals would perish from looking directly at a tune with untrained eyes, much like peering inside the Ark of the Covenant. They're protecting us all. That's why every tuner's website claims to be the best in the universe, because all the lesser tuners are dead! Lmao could you imagine 30 years ago paying someone to tune your car and them slapping a padlock on your distributor cap, or welding your jets in place?

Anyway, OP make sure you're using their usb cable (or probably just something more than a phone charger cable would suffice), make sure you're actually hitting record once you've got the gauges loaded on your device. Maybe hit the Comm tab in livelink and "Check Communication" before trying, because the software isn't smart enough to do that on its own. That's about all I got without more details or screenshots. I log with my livewire from time to time and I just follow the prompts for "I want to import a datalog from a device" and haven't had any real problems.

oh and your strategy should read as GHTUN with Gearhead, if it can't read your strategy then there may be a deeper problem. Welcome to the SCT support waiting room, they'll get to you in a couple weeks MAYBE. Then they'll ask a dumb question or give some instructions totally unrelated to your problem then ghost you again.

Lol yeah pretty much. The best part is modern Ford tuning is actually simple but knowing how much is too much or what is "safe" is where the wizardry is.
You modify stoich and ask for more torque, then increase limits, increase spark and boost until something breaks or you get uncomfortable with temps/lambda/pressure/etc...... Basically.

More like putting a cover over your engine with a lock. Remember even simple mods require revisions. Something to think about, say you spend tons of time doing revisions and for some reason your tuner and you don't see eye to eye, you have to start from scratch with a new tuner unless they give you the "keys"
But the worst part is they can charge for revisions and maybe not even make any. Who would know?

Anything from wrong cable to outdated drivers and sometimes just got to keep trying it. I spent hours trying to make it work only to take a sandwich break and come back and it worked. Especially now, I recently tried to use SCT on my truck and it flashed, then glitched, returned to stock and flashed again. But the shifts were crazy so I went back to stock and SCT told me they weren't finished revising tuning on 10speeds yet. So why was it in the canned tunes then?

You’re brave. I looked at SCT’s 93 base tune for the SHO and they had screwed around with the torque models which was enough to let me know I wanted nothing to do with it.

Well I actually wanted a sort of baseline of tables to modify lol. I've collected some tunes and slowly testing changes. I will give gearhead massive credit on their transmission tuning. They are way ahead on that. Especially with downshifting.

All the more reason to be careful. They modify things that should never be touched on a stock vehicle
