I need some advice on what to do with the heads on my 3.2, when i took off the valve covers I checked under the cam bearing support caps and both the cam bearing journals and where the cam rides in the head are scoured on both heads, my question is how big a deal is this? is this common on SHO's.
Can somebody help a new guy, thanks in advance.

It is not normal & I would say the cause is bad rod bearings.

Rod bearings would not have any effect on cam bearings.

Can you please take a picture? Sounds like you are saying that the cam bearing surface and journals are scored?

What the cam bearing surface in the head looks like is no big deal. Because the valve springs are always pushing the cam away from the head all the cam wear will be in the caps. How do they look? Bad rod bearings that let all the oil pressure leak out can definately cause oil starvation in the heads. Again, pictures would help.

Thanks guys for your response, upon further research into this I've found out that this problem is fairly common in engines that have not been looked after.
I kinda new that when I bought the parts car because the owner said that the engine had been overheated which is sure death, I got the parts car so cheep I'm not worried about the engine..... on to plan B.
The problem is that the cam bearing journals, the cam support cap and the head surface where the cam journal seats are all scoured, very rough to touch, they should be smooth much like a crank journal.
I'ts my understanding that when this happens it is not repairable in other words the heads are junk. I'm sure that I could put the heads back on and it would run fine, I would rather fix it right..... only the best for my SHO Wagon lol. Sorry no pics, no digi cam..... yet. I might need some help with that one.

Agreed. Bad rod bearings result in low oil pressure which results in less pressure throughout the system.
