I'm in the works of replacing the passenger side shaft seal. I've got everthing ready for it to come out and off, but it doesn't want to come out of the tranny. Last time it slid right out??? The axle is a reman, and has only been on for about 7k.

Sit down, put both feet on that tranny, grab that sucker and pull.

No really, it will come out, just gotta put some muscle into it.

Is the intermediate shaft stuck in the tranny or is the CV stuck in the intermediate shaft?

If the CV is stuck to the mid shaft, just disconnect the mid shaft from the motor mount bracket and pop the whole works out of the tranny so that you can get at the seal.

What he said . . . .

There are two 10mm bolts bolting the intermediate shaft bearing bracket to the engine block.

Nope, drivers side. I just wasn't thinking enough. I got a good pry bar, jacked the car up a little higher, and popped it off. Now I can't get the seal in.:nut:

Make sure to use some sealant on the outside edje of the metal seal where it touches the tranny or it will leak as well. They can be a pain to get it. Just make sure you get it in square.

We,, I decided to bit the bullet and do it the right way, and expensive way. $22 for plug, tap, and correct size drill bit.

Maybe I'll rent out the drain plug kit, and the exhaust stud kit like Bill does the shim kit.:nut:

I think you'll not regret that. Doing it with the NPT tap/plug means no leaks, no puddles, etc.

BTW: Wrong thread...

Sucked me in, too... ;)

be sure to grease the inside of the new seal so the CV doesn't tear up the rubber before any tranny fluid reaches it. take some extremely fine sand paper, say 2000 grit, and polish the stub on the CV, crusty stuff there will tear up the seal too. crokus cloth is a good alternative to the 2000 paper. use the "shoe string" method for even pressure

It was actually smooth as glass already. It is also only has about 7k on it.

IN usualy fasion, everything went together much easier and faster than removal. It took me three tries to get the tranny seal in though. the first two were NAPA, and the last was a Timken 3622s from AZ.

(keywords)tranny seal, output shaft seal, axle seal,
