CV Replacement Help!!!

Im doing my halfshaft and I got it off except the inboard cv joint hub is still in the transmission. How do I slide this out. Ive tried prying and pulling. Any suggestions?

Somtimes they can be hard to get out of the tranny. When I find that mine won't come out I use a pickle for between the trans housing and the inner CV. That pops it out in no time.

You can also try turning the half-shaft while applyinng pressure(pulling) in the CV.

You can also try a big screwdriver and pry it off.

I never F...k'ed one up b4, that is not to say it can't happen.

Try and use the shaft of the large screw driver rather then the tip. Wedge the shaft between the CV and Tranny house and give it a good whack. You should be fine.

Which side are you working on?

The driver's side has a circlip that provides resistance to removing axel. It is a spring steel clip that is about 90% of a circle. It should close the gap under pressure and allow the axel to come out. (It is in a groove in the axel)

I find it easiest to remove the axel by pulling on the axel until I can feel the circlip at the edge and then applying a snap pressure to a flat prybar or large screwdriver.

If you are working on the passenger side you should be able to simply pry it out. Did you remove the spedometer geer? rangerj

so i need to snap the circlip off?

i dont know what the speedometer gear is?
i got a pickel tool from autozone for ball joints or whatever

Now that you have it out take a look at the circlip, its position in its groove, and think about what it does. It is imperative that the circlip not get bent or distorted.

I recommend that a new one be used any time an axel is pulled. A bent or distorted circlip can keep an axel from coming out of the trans. Then the only way to get the axel out is to remove the trans and take it apart. rangerj

the reman halfshaft has new circlip on it, do i need to line something up when i put it on?

No. There is nothing to line up as far as the circlip goes. The axel splines will have to be lined up but this is no biggie.

This would be a good time to change the axel seal in the trans! rangerj

When you reinsert the new halfshaft into the tranny just give a good shove towards the tranny. If it doesn't go in, slightly turn the halfshaft and try again until the splines line up. If you think it's in, give the halfshaft a slight tug outwards and make sure it doesn't come out, if it stays in place then it should be properly inserted in the tranny.

I got axle back in. I lost about a quart of transmission fluid. I can not find info about how to add more transmisson fluid. I dont care to drain it or install a drain plug or anything.

How can I add a quart of transmission fluid and is there any way I can measure how much is in there now?

The fill plug is located facing the radiator.

3/8 square drive.

Just remove the plug, then use a hose and funnel to fill the transmission until it starts running out (park on level).

Reinstall plug
