While under the car one day, I noticed that the right outer CV boot is torn. I have a replacement set, but my question is how hard is it to change a CV boot? From what I can tell, it looks like a PITA to do.

Just change the half-shaft. It is much less of a PITA that way. $65 bucks at AutoZone.

Yup,99.9% of the time,if the boot is torn, there is damage done to the bearing.Changing the halfshaft, and changing the boot are just about the same job.FWIW,i have a set of CV boots i didn`t use,put them up on e-bay,and made a nice chunk of change off them. It`s amazing what people will pay when they don`t bother to check their worth.
