I just got my springs from Lance, and I'm curious about cutting one of the dead coils out.

Just take a hacksaw and cut the coil directly down from where it ends/begins? Do they have to start in the same point, or is it alright to cut the equivilant of 1.5 coils out?

*Edit* Could one coil also be cut from the rear springs, for less of a raked look. Is there any method for this, or just trial and error?

would look cool but not worth it.

I have intrax springs, the car sits low id like the front a little lower but as is i bearelly clear driveway and parking lots.
Any lower and you could get some damage on your front end.

IF you do plan on cutting them a hacksaw will not cut spring steel. You will have to use a cutting whelll in a grinder or something to that nature. DO not use a torch either it will heat it up and it can crack.

It can be done. I've done it, crazySHO has done it and some other members. car will be lower in the front, but with a better stance. I like it better. I used a dremmel. It took a while but it was safe.

I think I might have to agree with Tony on this. I have trouble getting into my own driveway without scraping, let alone parking, etc. I realize that as it is, I'm going to have to pay more attention to things like that.

Yeah I have to take it easy now that I have the Intrax I'm not used to it. I know the car is lowered, but if you just drove by me you probably wouldn't notice, I'm hoping when I get some 17's it will be more noticeable

So use the white line as a reference to cut one coil off ? and how much lower did it make your car like 2 inches?

Instead of cutting your $200 springs, why don't you cut the tab off of your struts and lower them in the knuckles.?

$200 springs, or $400 struts..
In my case, I bought my springs used, so they're not really under any warranty anymore. I'm planning on buying new struts unless I find a good deal on some used ones.

Lowering a car "Ghetto Fabulous" style...lol. The only real problem I see is that the knuckle could slide up the strut, say if you hit a pothole or something similar. It would be bad news for the ABS ring if that happened. I suppose you could grind off the tab and reweld it higher up on the strut but I'd rather cut the springs personally. :)

After the strut passed through the ccv axle.

The tab on the strut does not hold the knuckle from moving upward, it is there for a close reference point for alignment after replacing the struts.
Cutting the tab off will not make it weaker if anything you could tighten the pinch bolt in the knuckle more without the tab in between, but not to tight for risk of damaging the strut.

I've lowered my Eibach equipped SHO another 5/8 inch by doing this without a problem. And it's free!
