OK, before I ask my question, I already know about some peoples feeling on this site about replacing the factory equipped air bag steering wheel for an aftermarket wheel, so.....I'd rather not hear it.

I'd like to install an aftermarket wheel in my gen2, simply because I'm fat and have a hard time turning the wheel on my belly. I need to know the function of the clock spring, and if it is able to be removed from the column? What does it do????

Thanks.

Umm it makes the electronics on the steering wheel work while the wheel is being turned left or right. If you disconnect it you will get an annoying airbag light on the dash and well no airbag/horn/cruise control.
