I've had my 1993 Ford Taurus SHO (210,000 miles 5 speed) for 8 years now it had 130,000 when i bought it for $3,000...It was my second car, I was seventeen and always took resonable care for the car, but these cars seem to pose problems here and there (just the Ford in it
I've always liked the room and gas milage. I've had this car parked for about 2 years now and i've decided to put more time in it. I parked the car cause on my way to myrtle beach i go to back in a parking space and the car just lost reverse. Then to make matters worse I hit two deer on the way back from the beach.....lol. First thing i that went to mind was replacing the tranny (which id put a clutch kit and throw out bearing in about 6 months before because the plastic pin broke that holds on the throw out bearing into place)I decided to fabricate my own piece of metal(Cut closehanger) and do away with the plastic....which appeared to work better than the factory $2 plastic pin i ordered from Ford.
Two weeks ago I desided to pull this thing out of the woods and disassemble the tranny to see why it wouldnt engage in reverse...so i pull it in my shop, place the car in reverse before i start disassembling.........6 hrs pass and i'm finally break into the tranny....come to find out, a bolt came out on the outside of the tranny that holds the reverse shift fork in place(bolt was 1 1/2" long), went to the junkyard, got the bolt, had to force reverse gear to engadge by hand then place the cover on and put the reverse bolt in. Then reassemble..........while the front frame was out i decided to take my motor mounts out (cause they were about shot) and frankinsteined them (drilled into the center of them and put a pair of 2 1/2' bolts with lock washers and nuts)..(http://www.cardomain.com/ride/4018797/1993-ford-taurus/) (for pics)..needless to say the engine has no play and the car shifts into every gear with no problem. Has 220k now with no more engine or drivetrain problems, but having wiring issues?? While parked at a Park, the alarm started blaring and lights stayed on. After that day the trunk light does not come on and keyless enrty quit working also. Doors will lock all the time, and unlock sometimes......any advice?
