That's the sound that I hear when I push the gas pedal off-idle (kinda like a grinding sound). somewhere on the top end. and if I stay on the gas, it'll stall. made a recording of it (but left the cord to my recorder at home...I'll get it and upload the file) It also gets hot. but right before it hits the red on the gauge, the temp goes back to normal The Fan comes one, the Radiator is full of coolant.... I've never felt any boost of power at 4k rpm... Ran the codes and got:

52 Power Steering Pressure Switch/circuit open - PSP
(R) Did you turn wheel during test ?

27 Vehicle Speed Sensor problem - VSS

77 System did not receive "goose" test

this car is a '92 so I figure someone has changed the computer with a first gen... 92s supposed to be 3 digit codes, right?
What the heck is wrong with my car!? *cries*

what is the code on the computer itself? you can see it if you open the glove box and look at the pcm there should be a white label. your 92 should have a XJ2 PCM. gen I's had a LOS or a B9B1. there might have been another but I don't remember what the code was.

Explain the audio. What are you doing, idling? pressing the gas pedal?
What is that sound at the 3 second mark?

revving it off-idle...

I searched a little more thoroughly and ...maybe it's a "cam chain rubbing against a Valve cover?" if that's it, how'd I know that's it? and...(cam chain? isn't it controlled by a timing belt?)

this thing is driving me crazy! at first, I thought it were timing (and I still do) so I changed the CID and cleaned the DIS and put on dielectric grease and checked the ground strap...I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment and I need my car to make money...sigh~ this thing is driving me crazy!

It stalls when you rev it but keeps starting back up? Then I doubt it's the cam chains. If they were having a big enough problem to stall the engine, I would think that the car would not start afterwards.

Hey man I see you're in theDFW area. Give Tony Huerta a call. He's the owner of Northtexasperformance. Check his website for contact info. He will get you fixed right up.

I have no idea what the sound is but he can figure it out. Imight be a broken power steering pump out of alignment grinding and causing too much drag.
