My cruise control has stopped working. I checked all of the fuses and they are all good. Does the cruise have anything to do with the trans. My trans is original with 126,000. I wonder if it is starting to go. I already lose overdrive at times.

Thanks,
Chris

Losing OD is not a good sign. You may also want to look at the TB to see if the plastic clip for the CC is still attached. Mine fell off a few times over the years. I have no idea how but it did.

TB? sorry don't know the lingo. How long do these trans' last? How much is it to replace? Other than the trans and some stupid sensors in the engine this thing is very well maintained. Is it worth it or should I sell it before it drops?

TB throttle body. Look where the throttle cable hooks up there should be another plastic part hooked on there as well. Selling a car with a failing tranny isn't worth much. If you want to place a add on this forum you must pay a classified fee FYI.

few things to check are the speed sensor make sure it is plugged in and it may be faulty and have no codes , the cruise control unit it in front of the trans it looks like a piston they rust really bad , and wiring in the steering wheel, does the horn work if not the ground wire in broken and need to replace the clock spring in the steering wheel. 1 more thing is the clip on the thottle body they brake off. god luck

Yeah, the horn does work but, a buddy ran codes for me. The trans has 3 codes comming out of it. I think it's dying, temp out of range, voltage something, fluid something. Thanks for the ideas on how to fix it, I'm sure they would have solved my problems if it weren't for the ford trans syndrom. Not good, this thing has to go 1 more year of school.

I don't mind spending the little money I have fixing it, because I'm fairly confident with a new trans I could easily hit 200,000. How are the engines on these things? By the way this was my mothers car since new so otherwise it is well maintained.

those codes are there because the shifter was not in park and the eatc was not off. also was the car cold the trans temp sensor does that if so.
I would not think your transmission is out. i see that stuff everyday in cars i work at a transmission shop.

I'm starting too agree I went to a trans shop today and they drove it. You'd think that they would lie to get my business, but they said it's got more life. Though there is a need for a repair in the future it should get me by. Ford said they could trouble shoot it properly for $73, haven't decided if I'm going to do that yet.

To answer your questions,
yes, the car was very cold this winter in chicago
and I always turn the car off without putting it in park, I don't know why but I do.

OK i see well i think you have a lot trans left LOL but the speed sensor will not set a code all the time. On the sho it is a harder task to replace the speed sensor but I would think it is that. I am saying this because i work ata transmission shop and have the parts in stock I would change it and see but for you it is a money issue and labour maybe. but 1 thing is have you checked the other ideas??
