I am a recent owner of a GREAT 1993 SHO ATX. I have a problem with the cruise control. It was not working when I purchased the vehicle, however, I took it to the Ford dealer and the mechanic said that he didn't see anything wrong why it is not working. Now, the overdrive button on the shifter is not working either. The dealer said the cruise control IS tied to the tranny. Can someone shed some light on this subject? Evidently, the dealer is uncooperative. He wanted $90 just to run diagnostics on it and wouldn't specify details, just general facts I already know. I am anxious to add and keep this SHO. I have been wanting one for some time now. Thanks

I don't think the cruise is ties to the tranny, its just a little electric solenoid that keeps the throttle open via cable, it does have some sort of sensor on it soo that it will only turn on after a certain speed as well as keep the set speed if you go down or up a hill. Check the cruise control cable, the plastic piece on the end gets brittle and could break, at least that’s what happen to mine.

Good Luck...

I had a similar problem w/my 94 SHO. Ended up being the "Speed Control Amplifier" basically the cruse control module, located on the drivers fender wall. It's a black box with silver top and eight wire plug connector. On my car I could not shift into drive, Over Drive and Horn would not work and the brake light stayed on. My amplifier module shorted out and melted pins 3&4 and melted the harness. It was replaced and a new connector installed.

Part #F8ZZ-9C735-AA. This module interacts w/the Vaps Module, powertrian module, break pressure switch, horn switch, fuse box and stop lamp switch.

It plays a huge role in the electronics. Fortunately MTX SHO does not use this system, instead uses the old vacuum/type servo module.

Good Luck!

The cruise uses the signal from the Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS) also. It's a small sensor on the speedometer cable. Just follow the cable down towards the tranny until you find the sensor with a some wires coming out of it. If this sensor is bad, the cruise will not work at all.

It is corralated with transmisson. The cruise needs a VSS signal (vehicle speed sensor), which is located somewhere on the tranny. The cruise uses this signal to set, and to accel the cruise using the steering wheel buttons instead of pushing the throttle, the same with coast, you need not push the brake to slow the vehicle when using the coast feature. If it was just a solenoid that held the throttle open, how would it accelerate and coast using the steering wheel buttons? Conclusion: it is definatley tied into the tranny via the mechanical/electrical vehicle speed sensor mounted into the transmission, my guess it is probably bad or intermitant, which may be why the dealer techs could not find this problem. Also take into consideration sho32g's post

I appreciate the info. I will look into this on Sunday. My day off (whew!) You have given a GREAT start and thanks a million. This is why owning a SHO is satisfying and gratifying. People that share info make it a pleasure to own this vehicle. Thanks again, I will post another reply if this doesn't work. Remember: A happy SHO is one that is SHOwn off. HAHAHAHAHA
